These NHL playoffs have been fantastic and keep getting better and better. Not only have I turned a lot of my interest to the NHL playoffs from the consistent strong play of my "Old Time Hockey" Boston Bruins, but flashes of hot Canadian racks are now being pressed up against the penalty box glass. Despite the loss for the Sharks Wednesday night, Ben Eager of San Jose clearly came out a winner. I'm glad to see someone has taken a Ute Football ass-kicking tradition by removing clothing to help lighten up the mood of a sporting audience. Fans may all have their differences, but we can all agree and give a thumbs up to a nice pair of tits.

Don't worry NBA fans, I still have my attention turned to the NBA playoffs. I just have a clear evident lack of interest due to my dislike and hate of the remaining teams. Look who I have to root for:

1. Dallas Mavericks- Despite being the team that curb stomped the Lakers possibly ending the dynasty, this franchise still is home to Jason "Beats His Wife" Kidd and openly names him the best point guard to play the game.

2. Oklahoma City Thunder- This team makes me puke too, but I do my best to hold it in. They have basically become "That Underdog" everyone roots for with the really loud and rowdy crowd. I'm all for rooting for the underdog, but I'm calling Westbrook to turn out as a complete jackass villain in the NBA someday. As for the rowdy crowd? Not a bad crowd, for a team that actually uses artificial crowd noise as well. This team also is largely consisted of Oklahoma Sooner fans, which worship a man just as evil as Jim Tressel in Bob Stoops.

3. Chicago Bulls- I certainly have nothing wrong with this team aside from three personal major setbacks; I don't know if I can handle seeing a man in Carlos Boozer getting a ring one year after walking away from the Jazz (even though the Utah front office clearly showed hardly any interest in wanting Carlos back). The next is how great Chicago's defense is. This bugs me because this is a GREAT defensive team that regularly has Kyle Korver and Carlos Boozer on the floor. Didn't the Jazz opt to not have these guys return because of their lack of any defense whatsoever? Boozer's D is still nothing more than mediocre (which is why Tom Thibodeau is forced to sit him during crucial parts of a game), but Korver with intense defense?! I don't think he even attempted defense during his tenure in Utah. The last reason for not rooting for the Bulls is the obvious memories from the late 90's as a Jazz fan. Being the bitter, classless dicks we are, we will always have at least some small dislike to basketball's most beloved figure, Michael Jordan.

4. Boshtrich and the Miami Heat- Do we have to get into why I am not rooting for south beach? It's hot, moist, and full of black athletes and white ass holes, just like Kardashian vagina. The "Chosen One" LeBron James just got compared to Osama Bin Laden by one Cleveland writer which has probably become the world's most bitchy city. It's basically un-American to even root for the Heat. I don't know if there has ever been a non-human to win an NBA title and the Boshtrich could be the first.

NEWS FLASH!

Michael Jackson is still dead...

Watched a UFC PPV fight for my first time...

And I must say that it was actually quite entertaining. Even though the main event was lopsided with Brock Lesnar beating the snot out of Frank Mir, it was worth the few bucks I helped chip in with all the guys over at Derrick's house to watch it. Just like watching any other big event on PPV, you find a guy you like to root for and find a reason to hate the other guy.... But just like going to my first Real SL game a few weeks ago, I'm beginning to expand the differnt types of sports I enjoy. Go ahead and add MMA and Soccer to the list because I'm finding both to be very entertaining. Deron Williams looked to be like him old self again as he hit two key baskets in the final minute to give the Jazz the 99-94 win over a pretty horrid Kings team.
Then the night after, the Jazz met up with the Miami Heat at home and the Jazz just had no answer during the game. The Jazz opened the game with a quick 10 point lead and it looked to be a home game blowout for the Jazz. But the Jazz just had no answer for D-Wade and the Heat came back and took the lead for good. Utah would make little spurts that would cut into the lead trying to get themselves and the crowd back into it. But everytime they did, the Heat had an answer and held on for the win.
The Jazz then had the day off going into another back-to-back set of games for Friday and Saturday. First up was the Raptors at home on national TV as ESPN broadcasted the game. The Jazz did not disappoint and really impressed me with probably the best complete game I've seen them play all year. The Raptors, who had just got done firing their head coach Sam Mitchell after an 8-9 start, were blown out from the beginning and had no fire power to get back into it. But this game proved to be a historical one as interim head coach for the Raptors Jay Triano became the first Canadian to head coach an NBA team in a game.

It was a pleasant surprise also for the Jazz when Kirlenko and Harpring, who were listed as doubtful when the game was about to start, played and gave the Jazz huge contributions from the bench.
Saturday night, the Jazz fell to the Suns in a back and forth game. I thought it was actually a strong showing for the Jazz as C.J. Miles played one of his best games in his young carreer. I can really see now why the front office wanted to keep him and gave him his big contract during the off-season. But none the less, the Jazz missed key buckets down the stretch that could've won them the game or at least tie it to put it into overtime. The Jazz need to figure out how to finish the games in key situations like the one they were in against Phoenix if they expect to keep succeeding, especially on the road.

The scary news was what happened during the game against Phoenix, as well as after the game. During halftime of the loss at the Suns, Brevin Knight was taken by ambulance to a Phoenix-area hospital in order to have testing administered on his throat area, which he had injured in a collision with the Suns’ Goran Dragic in the final seconds of the first quarter. Following the collision with Dragic, Knight finished the first quarter and played the first 3:28 of the second quarter before leaving the game. A CT scan taken at the hospital showed Knight had no tears in the throat region, but did reveal significant swelling. Due to the swelling, it was recommended that he not fly back with the team to Salt Lake City following the game. Knigh remained hospitalized overnight for observation and was re-examined in the morning. There has been no report since, but he was expected to be able to return to Salt Lake City on Sunday.
Also after the loss, D-Will had a noticeable limp once again on the ankle he sprained during the pre-season. No word has been posted and Williams will probably be fine for upcoming games, but as a Jazz fan, I am very worried for the depth at our point guard play. If D-Will's ankle becomes a problem again during the season, it will not only take away the best player on the team, but eliminate another poing guard that the Jazz seem to have a problem keeping healthy. It will be just like the days in the playoffs when the Jazz were short on men at the point and when Williams got into foul trouble, Kirilenko took over that the point.

On the upcoming schedule for the week, the Jazz only have 3 games, with a big one at home against Portland who is in first place in the division on Thursday. The Jazz will have their hands full facing Greg Oden for the first time. The other 2 games are very winnable for the Jazz with games at the struggling Timberwolves on Tuesday, and Orlando at home Saturday.

Schedule ahead:
Tues. @ Minnesota
Thur. vs Portland*
Sat. vs Orlando

A Man Named Plaxico

I think the intelligent Stephen Colbert of the Colbert Report on Comedy central just about sums up the Plaxico Burress catastrophe. With meeting number three within the last two years on saturday, many aren't gving the Tigers a shot. Does Missouri have a legitimate shot at upsetting Oklahoma? Well as optimistic as I am, I would have to give the Tigers a shot.

At the beginning of the year, Mizzou was a top 10 team and looked to be on its way as a Big-12 conference contender for the conference championship. Well, one of these somewhat come true as the Tigers come into the Big-12 title game with 3 losses. But those 3 losses have come from Oklahoma State, who held tough with Texas and Oklahoma, in Austin against the Longhorns which everyone knows is very tough to win at, and a loss to the hated rival Kansas, because of a last minute TD toss by Ressing that gave the Jayhawks the win. These three losses are to reasonably tough teams and I look to see Missouri to hang tough in this game with Oklahoma.

There have been reports about Quarterback Chase Daniel contacting Texas QB Colt McCoy, who is the only QB to defeat the Sooners this year. McCoy wants in for the National Championship. So why not give advice to your only hope to beat the Sooners?

Advice McCoy gave to Daniel was to take the short passes, don't underestimate the Sooner Defense's speed, and to keep the ball safe by avoiding turnovers. The Texas Offense did so against Oklahoma with an efficient running game and short efficent passing. Longhorn Reciever Jordan Shipley had a breakout game with a kickoff return for a touchdown and a recieving toucdown from McCoy. The Tigers have a very similar explosive player in Jeremy Maclin.

Maclin also returns kicks and is the Tigers' most explosive player. If Daniel can manage the game just right with consistent passes to all-american TE Chase Coffman, and get the ball in Maclin's hands when needed, this game could end up as a shootout similar to Oklahoma's game with Oklahoma State which was close until the final 3 minutes.
The key for Mizzou if the game comes down to that type of the game, which the Sooners and Cowboys played, is to just finish out the game. Oklahoma State wasn't able to do so and Boomer Sooner was able to pull away with the big win late, winning by the score of 61-41.
Point blank, Bradford is going to get his stats and light up the scoreboard with the offense he leads. The only way is to match them points for points and hope their offense will be the one that makes the key mistake that decides the ball game.

What is up with the Jazz? Jazz Review 11/30

I know that the Jazz are pretty much a team that is playing crippled and I accepted the loss to the Bulls at the buzzer that happened earlier in the week to the Bulls. But a 105-88 loss to the Nets at home is unacceptable! Lucky for the Jazz, the first month of the regular season featured a relatively weak schedule and opening up with a 11-7 I guess isn't so bad considering the injuries that have been hitting this team, HARD. It could've been worse, especially when looking at some of the line-ups that were played in some games.
But the key for this team, and even through the rest of the season, is protecting the home floor. It is evident that this team will have struggles again on the road just like it did last year. They are known as one of the toughest teams to face on the road for opponents. But dropping games to teams like Chicago at the buzzer or New Jersey by 27 points on your home floor doesn't make you look so tough at home.
But look at the bright side Jazz fans, you have yet to see this team play to its full potential with a healthy line-up. Many writers picked the jazz to finish in the top 3 in West in the beginning of the season. My point is that we have yet to see this team at its best and I hope for it to be a treat when we finally do so.
So take the 11-7 record that our Rocky Mountain Revue team posted for the first month of the season and be happy with it. Good things are to come in the future, we just need to get healthy first. The week ahead looks very manageable with a big one on Saturday in Phoenix against the Suns.

Schedule ahead:
Tues. @ Sacramento
Wed. vs. Miami
Fri. vs. Toronto
Sat. @ Phoenix*

*=Big Game of the Week for the Jazz

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://freewridesports.blogspot.com/2008/11/what-is-up-with-jazz-jazz-review-1130.html' title='What is up with the Jazz?
